ANAMOOSE AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS
Anamoose, ND – At the June 2010 meeting of the Anamoose Area Community Foundation (AACF), the Advisorty Committee awarded $2,900 in grants to four local organizations. Those receiving grants:
The Anamoose Area Community Foundation was created in 2008 by a group of residents concerned about the lack of funding for local projects and non-profit organizations. The purpose of the Anamoose Area Community Foundation is to maintain a permanent source of funding for projects in the community of Anamoose and immediate surrounding area. Gifts from many individuals are pooled together and invested in a permanent fund. Each year, the local Advisory Committee uses income from the foundation to make grants. Through a matching gift program with the North Dakota Community Foundation, the Anamoose Area Community Foundation has the opportunity to leverage local dollars. The North Dakota Community Foundation will match dollar-for-dollar the first $10,000 raised, and add a bonus $5,000 if the community reaches $25,000. Those wishing to donate to the Anamoose Area Community Foundation can send their tax deductible gift to: For more information, please contact Alyce Heer at 465-3476.

GEOLOGICAL FORMATION NAMED AFTER ANAMOOSE Steele Lake (or Stelow Lake as commonly called), directly south of Anamoose, resulted 12,000 years ago when a glacier lifted a chunk of material and moved it as a whole, and set it down 1/10th mile to the southeast. This is according to an article by John P. Bluemle in North Dakota Geological Survey-North Dakota Notes No. 1. There are other hill-hole combinations in North Dakota but the most striking and obvious is by Anamoose-a discrete hill of ice-thrust material, situated a short distance down-glacier from the source depression of similar size and shape. Thus such hill-hole combinations are called "Anamoose".
